Mechanical Engineering Program Educational Objectives

The BSME Program Educational Objectives are as follows:

  • Graduates will have the educational background necessary to compete successfully in a global workplace
  • Qualified graduates will pursue advanced study if desired
  • Graduates will pursue leadership positions in their profession and/or communities

Mechanical Engineering Student Outcomes

By the time our graduates complete the mechanical engineering program, they will have successfully demonstrated the following:

  1. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering.

  2. An ability to design and conduct experiments, and analyze and interpret data.

  3. An ability to design processes, systems or components to meet desired needs and subject to realistic constraints, such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health, safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.

  4. An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.

  5. An ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.

  6. An understanding of the professional and ethical responsibilities of engineers.

  7. An ability to communicate effectively.

  8. An understanding of the global, economic, environmental and societal impacts of engineering activities.

  9. A recognition of the need for lifelong learning and awareness of how this can be achieved in their subsequent career.

  10. A knowledge of contemporary issues.

  11. An ability to use modern techniques, skills and engineering tools to address problems encountered in engineering practice.
