Biography
Dr. Ahmed Hasan joined the Mechanical Engineering Department in 2014 in various research and education positions. He received his Ph.D. in chemical and analytical studies in 2005 while working on the Yucca Mountain Project studying the colloidal transport of subsurface radionuclides. Previously he worked as a senior research engineer at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and technology and member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories. He worked various national and international projects related to the backend of nuclear fuel cycle. He teaches several undergraduate classes and promotes technology integration for sustainable development.
Research Interests
- The backend of nuclear fuel cycle and integrated management of Radioactive Sources
- Development of special filter media for removal of selective elements and radioactive colloidal particles
- Integrated Model for Sustainable Development (IMSD) that addresses the energy-water-environment nexus and produces a broader impact on the economic development by enabling technology integration
- The interaction of inorganic contaminants with mineral surfaces, colloidal transport of radioactive and metal contaminants and their applications to remediation, physicochemical characterization of soil and mineral surfaces, development of geochemical codes, and radionuclide migration
